Message from the Chairman

Our foundation was incorporated in April 1997 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology with the goals of encouraging and supporting research on proteins and related areas, contributing to academic development, and helping to improve the lives of Japanese citizens. In April 2012, we transitioned into the Cabinet Office-certified Fuji Foundation for Protein Research and have been working in that capacity ever since. Following 18 years of activity as the Research Committee of Soy Protein Nutrition (established in 1979) and the Soy Protein Research Committee (since 1991), we have been working as a foundation for the past 25 years.

As seen from elevated geopolitical risks and problems in various supply chains, the world now feels increasingly divided. Amid this social landscape, we feel that we can contribute by continuing to increase food options and develop sustainable food sources for our descendants and all humankind. We recognize that major issues to resolve going forward include not only improving the nutritional characteristics and physical properties of food but also making it taste as good as possible. Through grants for research on soybeans and other sources of plant-based protein, our foundation intends to continue doing all it can via food to create a sustainable world.

In continuation of our previous activities, we will strive as a public interest corporation to realize new developments in protein research. By further bolstering our research grant project and related public outreach activities, we plan to broaden and advance our contribution to the public good. To that end, we sincerely and humbly request your further support and cooperation.

Mikio Sakai, President
