Purpose of Establishment

Protein is said to be the basic substance that sustains human life, and remarkable progress has been made in protein research. It has become clear that proteins contained in foods such as soybeans are not only a source of nitrogen and amino acids, but also an effective means of maintaining health and preventing and treating diseases, owing to their specific physiological functions.

However, research on proteins is extremely broad, ranging from structure and physical properties to component breeding and physiological functions, and progress in these related fields remains insufficient.

Since 1979, Fuji Oil has promoted soy protein research by soliciting research projects from researchers at universities and other institutions in Japan and providing research grants after screening and selection by academic experts.

In 1997, Fuji Oil established the Fuji Protein Research Foundation with the aim of further developing and enhancing its research activities related to soy protein while broadening the scope of its activities to include other proteins as well.

The Foundation’s main activities are to encourage and support protein-related research, thereby contributing to the development of science and improving people's lives.

In April 2012, the Foundation reincorporated as a public interest incorporated foundation in order to continue its research grant activities and to promote new developments in protein research.

Since then, protein and related research has progressed at a remarkable pace, thanks to the dedication of countless researchers, many of whom have received funding from the Foundation. To further build on the progress achieved thus far, the Foundation continues to provide research grants and to disseminate research results, thereby contributing to the public interest.
